What else can i say after that, but more please...

Positive
Straight off in this book, i love The Moment when the sparks flew for about the first twenty pages i was glued to the pages in anticipation i really expected these two be getting it on and right quick sparks definately flew.
The characters were fully develop with a nice little back history and a whole lot of why and how they worked, not only in the environ they were in but with the support cast they interact with.
Diar Was set in his ways. Not known for having a congenial attitude, Mikki brought out all his natural instinct to the service and he took it in his stride. He was not only considerate of the fact that he needed to approach Mikki with care but he knew how to deal a firm hand as well.
Mikki - A very strong protag. I love the fact that she was strong, she remain strong and she took no rift when she needed satisfaction. As arrogant an Alpha as Diar was he really had no clout with Mikki. Mikki in one word Trouble.
The support cast were fun, there was alot of them and they were quite likable. I must admit i felt some were really strong and i hope Ms. Hawley has plans for them some scene was all about the support cast and how life changes would affect them very strong personalities.
A sarcastic humour was to be found in this book and this was so my kind of humour I had a good laugh at and with these people their antics, their mannerism and there attitude to whatever pissed them off at the moment.
The crime lab set up and introduction to Diar's world was a nice touch, the people he was closet to, the people who cares about him it was good to see them closing ranks and feeling out Mikki to see if she was worthy. The whole scene with Diars co-workers was one of the major highlights of the book.
One major positive about Ms. Hawley's wolves was the fact that she really went out on a limb to sell her creations a full history was given, from birth to death, i knew the life cycle of these wolves and how they integrated themselves into society.
These wolves has an understated grace to them that allows them to be found in the quietest of setting to the most upscale setting but thy also had to work hard to contain the primitive nature of the wolf within them that chooses moment to growl and he did alot of growling.
There was a good pace to this book. It wasnt rush through but it had its moments where it went just as fast as my heartbeat - racing.
I thought the suspense was really well presented. This wasnt a who done it with loads of thinking trying to sort it out. This was good old fashion and hunt and chase and i loved it.

CHAPTER SEVEN « TALES OF THE EROTIC

  • May. 25th, 2009 at 1:26 PM

retelling of the dream

Bethany knew she shouldn’t have told her back-up singers about her dream from the night before, but they were more than her back-up singers; they were he best friends, her family.  If she couldn’t tell them about what she had experienced, whom could she tell?  She desperately needed to talk to someone about what had transpired, even if it had all taken place in her sleep.  She was too weirded out about it.

Still, the trio—Lori, Lillian, and Darlene—had their own personal issues and could be messy at times.  Lillian was the resident cougar, older than the others, and not at all shy about her appetite for sex.  Darlene, the lesbian of the group, was always arguing with Lillian because Lillian couldn’t understand why Darlene wasn’t into men.  If there were a discussion between the two—and it could be totally unrelated to men—they would still manage to make it an argument about men.  As for Lori, the group bible thumper, she was picked on by both Lillian and Darlene for being too conservative.  Bethany had named the trio Organized Chaos.  They fought like cats and dogs amongst one another, but when it came to singing, the harmony of the three would have made even Ray Charles stand up to dance.

“Did you say you had a dream or a nightmare?”  Lori asked.  “I mean, a man turning into a monster seems more like a nightmare than a dream to me.”

“It was a dream, Lori.” Bethany replied. “It just…turned into something else.”

Lillian, who was on the other side of the stage, sarcastically let out, “How would Bethany know the difference?  She isn’t…experienced enough with dreams to be able to know what a nightmare is.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”  Bethany challenged.

“It means,” Darlene interjected, hands on her hips, “that you wouldn’t know the difference between a dream and a nightmare because you’re not a whore like she is.”

Lillian stood up.  “What did you say?”

Forever the instigator and never one to back down, Darlene looked Lillian in the eyes. “I didn’t stutter. Come on, Lillian, what else could that whole ‘she’s not experienced enough with a dream to be able to tell the difference from a nightmare’ crack mean anyway?  You said that because you know Bethany still hasn’t been with a man.”

“And if I did?  If you had your way, you’d have Bethany licking and kissing on a woman!”

“I make no apologies for being lesbian, Lillian.  At least I know that love isn’t being on my back, spreading my legs to every Tom, Dick, Harry, George, Charles, Theodore…”

“Just because I love men, it doesn’t make me a whore.”

“Oh, come on.  You’ve been with so many men they call you the village bicycle because everyone’s had a ride!”

“Ladies, please!” Lori shouted, trying to break up the argument.  “Does everything always have to be about you two?  I for one was trying to hear about Bethany’s dream.”

Be quiet, Lori,” Darlene commanded.  “I don’t even understand why you’re all up in Bethany’s mouth trying to hear about her dream with Mr. Handsome Monster because you don’t like men or women.  You like the Lord.”

As if to illustrate her point, Darlene mockingly started singing a church hymnal, badly fumbling over the words on purpose. Lori’s eyes became animated with emotion.

“You’re going to burn in hell for doing stuff like that!”

Lillian countered, “No, she’s going to burn in hell because she likes licking on other women.

Darlene stopped singing. “And your tongue’s going to fall off because you like to lick on everything with two legs and a pair of gonads!”

Laughing uncontrollably on her side, Bethany raised her hand.  “Can I please finish telling all of you my story?” she asked, out of breathe from chortling.  “You guys are crazy!”

“We’re sorry, girl,” Darlene said to Bethany, rolling her eyes at Lillian, “go ahead and finish your story.”

Catching her breath, Bethany went into it.  “A dream or a nightmare?  I dunno.  Maybe it was a combination of both?  I mean, it started off so…beautiful, if I could use that word.  All of us were up here on stage singing, at Jazzy’s, when this man who looked like he had dropped out of heaven came through the crowd and onto the stage.  He was so gorgeous that I  just started staring at him as I continued to sing.  I just wanted to sing about how beautiful he was.  Then he started kissing me and I couldn’t resist.  To tell you the truth, I don’t think I wanted to resist.”

Lillian started waving her hands.  “Wait!  Stop right there!  All I want to know is…was he fine?”

Darlene couldn’t wait to pounce.  “Is there ever a time you don’t think about sex?”

“No,” Lillian responded matter-of-factly. Then, “Talk to me Bethany, girl!  The man in your dream, was he fine?  Tall?  Short?  Black?  White? What?”

“That’s the thing,” Bethany started back.  “He wasn’t black or white.  He seemed to be a mixture of some of everything.  And he was tall—nicely built—with long, wavy dreads.  And when we kissed, it felt like…it felt like…”

“Yes?”  The trio seemed to say in unison, hinging on her every word.

“…it felt like I was kissing God.  Sorry, Lori, no offense.”

“No offense taken.  I know you weren’t talking literarily.  I mean, we know you can’t kiss God.  He’s omnipotent, it would be like…”

“Lori?”

“Yes, Lillian?”

“Shut up!  Okay, Bethany, continue.”

One of these days, Bethany would have to talk to Lori about letting people push her around.  “So then, my dream went crazy!  One moment, this handsome man is right next to me.  We’re standing there kissing. And the next it’s like he’s turned into this giant monster and he’s sucking the life out of me.  It all seemed so real!  I woke up screaming, my sheets drenched from sweat.  What do you think it all means?  Aren’t dreams like that supposed to mean something?”

A few seconds went by before Lillian, a serious look on her face, said “You know what that dream was all about?  I think your subconscious was telling you that your body is at war with itself.”

“What the hell?” Darlene muttered under her breath.

“Your body is telling you that you’ve more than come of age and it has certain needs.  That handsome man, that virulent hunk, probably transformed into a monster because you continue to resist that which your body craves.   ”

“Hold up!  Hooold up!” Darlene let out, pointing at Lillian.  “I know the this aging nympho—who should really be called a tired, played out mountain lion instead of a cougar, but I won’t go there at this moment—is not trying to play shade tree psychologist by telling this woman she had that dream because her body secretly craves sex?!”

Lillian responded calmly, “Yes, I am.”

Darlene was really about to let her have it.  “You know, just when I thought you couldn’t get any shallower…”

Suddenly, the front door to the club opened and everyone paused.  Normally, they wouldn’t have heard it, but this was Monday and the club was closed to the public.  The group was supposed to be rehearsing, but left unchecked they could go on and on like this for hours.  However, there was one person who could keep them on track:  Lorna Tate, the owner of the establishment and defacto manager of Bethany Rose and Organized Chaos.

“Hello, Mrs. Tate!”  Lillian exclaimed, changing gears. “We were just talking about you!”

Lorna walked to stage and took off her sunglasses. “Stow it, Lillian,” she said in her trademark soft, professional tone.  “The day you talk about another woman, Darlene will be all over you.  You all were so loud I could hear you outside the door. Why aren’t all of you rehearsing?  We’ve got talent scouts that’ll be here next weekend and new songs to learn for this weekend and all I hear is Sigmund Freud here giving out sex advice.  Can we get to work, please?”

That was Lorna, never raising her voice—always polite—but getting her point across.  She gave each of the women her trademark hug.  When she came to Bethany, she asked, “You all right?”

Bethany waited until the others were on stage out of earshot, pretending to get ready to rehearse.

“Yeah, Lorna, why do you ask?”

She started smiling.  “Because I was at the door for a long time and I heard everything.  I only pretended to just now come inside. And I know you good enough to know you wouldn’t be talking about something like your dream unless it really bothered you.”

Bethany hesitated, looking at the stage before she asked Lorna, “Can we talk for a minute?”

“Sure!”  To the trio, “Why don’t you three start warming up and practice the hook to that new piece Shelton was working on?  The one he gave all of you last week?”

As they nodded affirmation, Lorna pulled Bethany to the side and the two walked into another area of the club.

Sitting down, Lorna, still smiling asked, “What’s up?”

Bethany always liked that smile.  It put her at ease when the club was really packed and she was nervous, looking out into the crowd.  “Well…I,” she hemmed and hawed, “I really don’t know how to start.”

Lorna grabbed both her hands and squeezed them gently, being supportive. While Bethany’s back-up singers might take her for granted, Lorna knew Bethany was extremely sensitive.

“The beginning would be a good place.  It’s okay, just say what you need to say.”

There was still a look of indecision on her face, but Bethany finally gave in. “Okay, Mrs. Tate, if you were at the door for a while you heard about my dream.  Besides it being absolutely loony, do you think there’s any truth to what Lillian said?”

Lorna took a deep breath as though she were about to say something important.  Bethany cut her off.

“Don’t say anything yet, just listen. I’m not necessarily giving any credence to what Lillian is saying in this instance, but I’ve thought about it before.  This virgin thing isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.  I’m 26 years old and I can’t hold onto a boyfriend because I won’t have sex with any of them.   Meanwhile, all of my girlfriends have nice, meaningful relationships—some of them are even married—and I’m all alone by myself.  I mean, it’s not that I don’t think about sex and being with someone in that way.

“But I’ve always thought that I was saving myself for someone special.  Am I crazy for thinking like that?  After all, it’s the new millennium and who now-a-days is saving themselves?  But it’s always been more than a religious thing for me.  I’ve just always had this dream that I was supposed to wait for my soul mate.  Does such a thing even exist?”

Lorna knew just what to say.  “Why are you even listening to them?” she asked in a way that would give Bethany more confidence in herself.  “Hell, the reason why Lillian keeps running through men is because she can’t keep one and Darlene isn’t into even men.  And Lori?  Lori will probably end up marrying a bible!”

Bethany started laughing.  Lorna tugged on her hands.  “Don’t you ever let anyone tell you how you should run your life, especially if you believe something in your heart.  You’re an extremely pretty, extremely talented young woman who’s on the verge of signing a major recording contract.  Right now, you’ve got a lot more on your plate to worry about than losing your virginity to someone who’s not worthy.  Relationship be damned.  Trust me, when the right person comes along—someone who’s precious—everything else will fall into place.”

“You promise?”

“I promise.”   They hugged each other.  That was Lorna, smart and classy.  Bethany was glad she had her in her corner.  Lorna had been as instrumental for Bethany’s rise in music as anyone else and as equally supportive.

After they had finally pulled away from one other, Lorna said, “Okay, Bethany, let’s get down to business.”

“Okay.”

“I need you to stay on point and keep those wild ladies of yours reigned in.  I don’t mind you guys having a cocktail every now and then, but Darlene drinks like a fish and she’s getting a little too tipsy on stage.”

“Okay.”

“And tell Lillian to stop trying to hump every man under 30 who comes in here.  She’s starting to get a reputation as the singing strumpet in Organized Chaos.”

Bethany couldn’t help but to continue laughing.  “Okay, anything else?”

“No.  Your singing is great.  You’re going to knock them out this weekend!  Just make sure your group stays on point.”

“I will.”  Bethany paused.  Then, “So…do you think my dream meant anything other than the soliloquy Lillian gave me about it being time to lose my virginity?”

This time, Lorna snickered.  “No, Bethany.  Believe me, if I told you about some of the wild and crazy dreams I’ve had during my lifetime, you wouldn’t be asking me that question.”

“But it was so…real.”

“Sometimes dreams seem like that.  That’s what makes them fun and sometimes scary.  But they are only fantasies being played out in our mind.”

“Well, I hope I don’t ever have a fantasy like that again.  At least if I do, I won’t tell the girls about it.”

“Yes, that would probably be best.

So... unless someone can convince Heatheran opponent of gay marriagethat there's a zero chance that marriage equality will "further doom" the institution of marriage in African American communities then, gee, we just can't risk it. And if you can't prove that negative, well, sorry. Think of all the (fatherless black) children.
Hm. It seems to me, Heather, that the maybe the real problem with the black familywhat's depressing black marriage ratesisn't poverty, institutional racism, crime-plagued inner cities, sub-standard housing, the eeeeeeeevils of rap music (sarcasm, people), the glorification of thug culture, and the lack of access to primary medical care, birth control, abortion services, etc., etc., but the fact that straight white people can get legally married right now. I mean, the saturation coverage given to a white celebrity's wedding has to be reaching African Americansthey watch TV, they see the covers of the tabloids at the supermarket. And maybe all the straight white people getting married has created a fatal associated in the minds of African Americans between marriage and whiteness, or "acting white"and you how poor blacks feel about "acting white." Seems to me that if you want to do everything you can to promote marriage among blacks, you would start by banning straight white marriage. And unless someone can prove to me that banning straight white marriage wouldn't improve marriage rates among blacks then I don't think we can risk even one more straight white marriage. Think of the children.

The plan was simple. Evacuate the entire population of a planet orbiting around a dying sun to a terraformed world created just for them by the Galactic League of Planets. At least it was simple until Princess Anleen of Bastina decided the biggest and fastest space vessel ever built could be put to better use. She needed to recover the key to the ancient map. It didnt matter that the most important relic of the Bastinan people was the good luck charm of an earthling who fancied himself a pirate on the high seas of space and traded in only two things--gold and women. Fair maidens when possible.

When Captain Dirk Roberts, ex-Corporate Space Fleet colonel, now independent space freight hauler--a man who doesnt always have his papers or his life in order--seeks safe haven at the doomed planet Aznate, hes only looking for a hot shower, a drink or three at the last spacer bar on the edge of known civilization, and repairs for his ship. What he finds instead is more intriguing than any tale of Blackbeards adventures and more beguiling than the fair maiden Guinevere of Arthurian legend.

From a hijacked ark to a plundered heart to the writing of the final Chapter in the ancient childrens fairytale of the legend of Bastina, only Haark, the god of the Bastinan people, knows how the story will end... But that doesnt stop Princess Anleen from trying to rewrite it.

Chapter One
I implore you, father, you must reconsider. We can do it tonight, after the christening. We can steal the Ark and find our world and our people. Princess Anleen of Bastina continued her plea, We can finally save them!

The air, as always, was heavy with soot and the smell of vanstar oil burning in big brass wall sconces that struggled to keep at bay the suffocating gloom that clung to the great cavern much like the shroud of oppression the planet Aznate had become for the Bastina people as a whole.

Somewhere in the dark recesses of the maze of caves the Bastina people called home, the relentless sound of dripping water was a constant reminder of just how urgent the situation had become. The experts of both peoples agreed that within the next twenty years the suns decline into the death rattle of a newborn nebula would ravage the planet, melting all the surface ice, flooding the tunnels, caverns and caves, forcing them all to the surface where ultraviolet levels would kill them almost as quickly as drowning below ground.

Her father, the current king of Bastina, a kingdom neither one of them had seen or set foot on, as was the case with the last hundred and seventy-four Bastinan kings and queens, was adamant. It has been decided. Bastina is gone, lost forever. No one even knows where to look. We have only stories and fairytales of where we come from. It is time to accept the Aznates invitation and join our two great peoples as one. It is the only way to insure our passage to the new world. You forsake them! You are nothing more than a traitor! And, she stepped closer to her fathers throne and sneered, I refuse to marry that stinking Aznate, Druuk!

Her father was not a man to be denied and was on his feet before she could take a breath, his face pressed inches from her own as he stated in a flat, menacing tone, You, daughter, will do exactly what I say, with exactly who I say, exactly when I say. And I curse the memory of your fool grandmother for putting those stupid ideas into your head! Bastina is nothing more than a fairytale. Now, he continued to challenge her stare, I believe you have a wedding to prepare for. I am the King and that is my order!

Her gaze steady, her nostrils flaring with each breath, she matched his tone, And I am your daughter, a free woman of Bastina, not this Haark forsaken rock, and, she mocked, how can you claim to be the King of a place you say is nothing more than a fairytale? I would rather be a virgin sacrifice than marry that piece of Aznate slime!Careful what you wish for, my daughter. Married or not, I will chain you to Druuks bed and let him have his way with you. Better a royal consort than a dead virgin!

She had expected as much. Her grandmother, the Kings mother, had told her once: My son does not believe these things; he will only laugh in your face. If he actually gave credence to these so-called fairytales hed have to admit that he and all the rest of our family have failed the Bastina people miserably.

Yes, she knew the fairytale well. Every child of Bastina had fallen asleep to the stories. Far, far away, circling a star not unlike Earths Sol, a glimmering collection of six planets, all traveling in the same orbital path and plane, all seemingly connected to each other by a thick band of asteroids that, from a distance, seemed to form an elegant necklace circling a smiling golden sun goddess.

The asteroids, an eclectic mix of white, shimmering, frozen carbon dioxide and water, gleaming nickel and iron chunks with rough jagged edges and black monoliths of silicates and space debris, tumbled lazily as they bumped and cajoled their neighbors in perpetual territorial fights.

Touching her own necklace she steeled herself to advance the attack. When her father saw where her fingers landed he bellowed, And get that thing off your neck!

When his hand shot out to jerk it off she jumped back.

t you dare! she shot back, While you may be a fairytale King, this, she lifted the heaviest stone and stretched the necklace out below her chin, is the oldest known relic of my people! Of the lost system of Bastina!

This was not the first time theyd had this argument, however this time, she decided, it would be the last.

Her father mocked her. Ha! Lost system of Bastina! Your people! A fairytale! Nothing more!

She could feel it happening. It always did no matter how hard she tried to stop it. Her eyes burned and the first traitorous tear slid slowly down her cheek. She determined not to blink before spinning on her heel, leaving him to gloat.

She hated it most when he would no longer argue. When her father, the Bastinan king suddenly realized his arguing only fueled the fire. He would pass off the thought of another Bastinan people, a people not stuck on his precious Aznate, as completely insignificant with a wave of his hand and a few sarcastic barbs to shut her up. His flippant attitude was more infuriating than the fight.

I will show him.

Oh, and Princess.

Now Im the princess and not his daughter. She kept walking and ignored him.

t forget about your wedding plans. There is still much to do.

Once she was sure shed been swallowed completely by the shadows at the far end of the great royal hall she let her emotions boil to the surface and stood sobbing quietly, shoulders heaving, and let resolve harden her heart.

Anleen lifted the biggest stone, one of six that on the necklace that represented the six planets of Bastina, again, brought it to her lips, kissed it, and whispered the words of the old language, the Bastinan tongue, words her grandmamma had taught her, Hi-ek tan da ko leet Bastina. Ny-ka da ko lilt.
* * * *
Dirk Roberts punched a button on the overhead, silencing the proximity alarm, checked his heading, and hit the COM link to request emergency docking clearance.

He tried to recall the last time hed put into port, any port, for more time than was needed to take on provisions, drop off a load, and pick up another. Enough time to come out of his light speed tin can, asses the current state of humanity and alien-anity and crawl back in.

A full bird colonel in the Corporate Space Fleet by the time he was 28, in line for his first admirals star before 30, he found the politics of military command much more demanding than any enemy confrontation.

Seen as a natural leader, a man not to be overlooked or ignored in any crowd, his natural wit and strict sense of justice and fairness had taken him a long way.

It had been a simple thing that had changed his outlook as well as his look forever. No longer a colonel in the Corporate Space Fleet he now looked more like the pirates of days gone by the fascinated him so. A natural occurrence between two beings no matter what planet they happened to hang their hat on. A naturally fulfilling moment in his life ravaged by the unnatural hate of other world racism.

But that was then. This was another time in another place with a decidedly unfulfilling purpose.

Then he saw it peeking around the edge of the mottled white planet. Hed heard about it. Everyone in the galaxy had heard about the Aznate Ark. More than a hundred miles long with a girth at its widest point of twenty, a height of five, and light-beam bells at each end that could swallow small moons whole. It was the biggest machine of any kind, to date, anywhere.

Ah, right Aznate control, Q-class 33265, captain Dirk Roberts requests docking for emergency repairs. No cargo, no crew, technical assistance required.

He punched the coordinates into the NAV unit and sat back to take in the sights while Aznate control took care of docking.

Hed been limping along in deep space at LS-2 for over six months, a trip that should have taken less than a week, after dropping a load of machine parts at Meline; then setting off for Handrac on a deadhead to snag a load of yandaw crystals, when his light-compression unit had blown. Sniffing the stale cabin air, he wondered if the entire ship was as dank as he was.

Limited to light speed 2 hed had to run for the nearest port he could find. In spite of Galactic League of Planets Regulations that required all inter-galactic-transport to carry one years provisions during any light-beam jump, just like compliance with light-compression unit maintenance schedules, his operating budget wasnt quite up to GLOP standards and hed been rationing everything, including water, for the past six weeks.

He didnt care. Hed survived worse.

He smiled at the skull and crossbones, a genuine pirates flag hed bartered away from a slag hauler just outside Earths asteroid belt, stuck to a bare patch of wall beside the front observation window. He decided the story might not be as good as a pirates tale, but it would get him a free drink or two in the port bars.

As his ship got closer, he studied the ark closely, especially the small silver glimmers along one side. With a start he realized the glimmers were actually galactic class star cruisers, the latest in GLOP bullet ships that could hit LS-200. Huge ships in comparison to his freight hauler. The dimensions of the ark dwarfing the bullet ships put the true bulk of the ark into perspective. He whistled in admiration.

Dirk grabbed his long, black coat and three cornered hat and got ready to leave the stinking tin can he called home. At least long enough to take a shower and get a drink. Or three.

Patting the bulkhead of his ship affectionately, he promised to put his mistress right again.

But, Mother. How can you expect this of me?You are the only heir to the Bastina royal line...How can we claim royal blood rights to a place my father doesnt even believe exists?s beside the point. The Aznate believe and its the Aznate who are offering passage off this Haark forsaken melting snowball and safe haven on their new planet. Theres even talk with the League of Planets of getting our own world some day.

Petulant and rebellious, Anleen insisted, But we mustnt! Safe haven may be four hundred light years in the wrong direction! Four hundred light years further from true certainty for the Bastinan people! Even the ones on Bastina!

Her mother had grown weary of her protests and it showed.

You will listen here, young lady, if you really do believe in Bastina and your people, you will do this thing and be glad. This marriage has been arranged since your birth as payment to the Aznate people for all theyve done for us, the real people of Bastina. You should feel flattered and overjoyed that such a debt can be paid by only you. You! You! You! Thats all I hear from everyone! You do this! You do that! Im sick and tired of it! Im the only twenty-six year old virgin on the whole Haark forsaken planet and all because my father wanted to make sure the Aznate didnt back out on the deal.Yes, you. And we all thank Haark for you every night in our chants, her mother sniffed in the elitist fashion most royals used when discarding other peoples feelings. Druuk isnt all that bad, dear. Really...My Haark, Mother, the man-- No, the thing doesnt even have a cock! Hes going to lick his way into me and spit! Spit, mother! Spit into his virgin bride until she writhes in blissful joy and happiness! Then, in six months, a ... a ... purple thing will come out!

Her mothers face clouded at the image, but with a stiff upper lip and jutting jaw she was undeterred. Now, Anleen, I will have no more of that kind of talk in my chambers. The experiments have been done, everything has been proven viable and one of our young women has even spoken very highly of the whole experience.

Anleen grabbed her overfur and threw one more gallon of vanstar oil on the fire, Yes, but have you really looked at the results? She leaned close, Just remember, Mother, when my firstborn, a purple thing with scales and stubby little antenna sticking up, something that stinks and has no cock, calls you grandma, be sure to smile.

Throwing the overfur around her shoulders she stormed out slamming the door behind her.
* * * *
Anleen carefully pulled the white half-mask in place over her eyes, the one all Bastinan were required to wear in public during the day because they were considered too ugly to be looked upon by the Aznate young, pulled her overfur tight around her shoulders and trudged down the dark, dank hallway being jostled mercilessly by passing Aznate and other masked Bastinans.

She knew what she needed and she knew exactly where to find it. Maybe thered be some Marjing or Meline in the place. Anything nice to look at. Even a Zandill would be better than what awaited her on her wedding night.

She smiled at the soft tinkle of the bell above the door as she pushed into the only exclusively off-world pub on the planet and headed for the bar. A place the Aznate would never enter. Her only refuge from the stinking beasts. Her parents would kill her if they knew. Ha, a fate worse than marriage! Or not!

After her first thimble full of jank death-blood, her preferred libation, she had an idea and giggled at the absurdity of it.

After her second, she stopped giggling.

With the third, she had no idea how she was going to do it but she had decided. Reaching inside her overfur she found the heavy ball that hung lowest on her necklace and, without looking, counted right two balls to the smallest, the planet Odan, the royal planet, and recalled her grandmothers words.

This, Lee, her grandmother had explained invoking the nickname shed given her, this one is the royal planet. Odan. The land where all Bastina royals were born and raised. A snow world of beautiful blue ice, lush green trees and lichens, a permanent blanket of clean white snow, and birds and animals that are the most beautiful in all the galaxy. But tell me about the sky, grandmamma, please. The sky!Oh, the sky. You always want to know about the sky, dont you? Well, the sky is a deep azure and as the world spins, ever so slowly, night or day, you can glimpse the rest of our systems planets lumbering along, all of them holding hands.

She ordered another drink and scanned the mirror behind the bar looking at the off-worlders, imagining another life in another place at any other time. Any place and time other than the one she was now stuck in.

The first thing she noticed was the hat. How odd, she thought. Shed seen something like it before in Ds but she couldnt place it. And a feather sticking up! Is it a real one? From a real bird? Having never seen a real bird, she had no idea.

She watched the being push its way between chairs, its back to her, and she could guess nothing else about the shrouded figure. She did see two legs and funny looking boots.

When it turned and spoke with one of the waitresses, she still couldnt tell. With that much hair on its face it could be an Andrine female. The hands looked like a Rangdons or Melines but much bigger. And black.

And whats that around its neck?

Anleens mouth fell open and she grabbed her drink.

When she looked back it was gone. Dropping some coins on the bar, she found the waitress, a Meline, and inquired. Staring at the door at the back of the pub, she wondered if she dared.

Slipping into her overfur, she dared.

Characters
Rowan an Morgaine A much loved daughter, bath in light and happiness and knows that she is surrounded by her kind that is until the prince of darkness takes a shine to her. Once her life changes, she comes into her own and she puts up a hell of a fight.
Gabriel MacInnes The loved brother who was never able to understand the demands placed on his brother. The much loved son who felt like he never fitted into the world that was all he had ever known and he was also the lover that the ladies cant seem to get enough of.

The Plot
Rowan is exiled on earth when she becomes the target of a demented dragon prince. Barely managing, she make the best of a bad situation along with her brother.
When she is saved again by her brother and left not only on Gabriels pack land, but in Gabriel's arms she does what she does best goes on the defensive, however this time she has meet her match and she will not grin and bear it.
Gabriel has is hackles up, just as much as his pack when the door they have been guarding opens and through them emerges two beautiful people. He soon finds himself with a handful of woman and as much as he doesnt agree with the plan, he takes his responsibility very seriously.
With more than their egos at stage, Rowan and Gabriel have to not only sort out the fragile thread of their relationship, but also be on constant alert, because Rowan comes with a whole heap of trouble and Gabriel refuses to let her out of his sight.

Surprise element
The author has clearly thought out the plot of this series and in this second book, she has further define the past of the shifters and there role in what is currently happening to Rowan. The Drakkyn Realm was so clearly described that you could actually form a pretty clear idea of what this place would look like. I thought this was nicely down by the author.

Predictability
Any book that has shifter in it, I immediately start thinking Oh god, the dreaded pheromones, however that aspect of the book did not overtake the plot or even infringed on how the end came about.

Smut/Ick Factor
You guys know how i love my smut, but i have to admit the act itself in this book did nothing for me. It has romance, there is no doubt about that, however the innuendos and self denying was so much fun to read about, that when they finally came together, it wasnt fireworks for me. However the merry chase to getting there and staking their claim on each other was just like cream on cake.

Positive
From the moment i read the first in the series, i love the concept of the world that Ms. Castle has created and CALL OF A HIGHLAND MOON was a wonderful opening book to the series so i was very pleased at how Ms. Castle used the stripper angle to pull me in.
The fact that she steps out of the norm and pair Gabriel a werewolf shifter with Rowan a Demi-Goddess, was also a path less travelled, but it worked and it was good.
The sexual tension between these two as mention before was so rich they themselves didnt even know what was happening and that was a big plus for me.
The emotional highs and low of soul searching, confession and some levels of vulnerability was well timed and well played.
Another area for the book i was impressed with was the growth of Gabriel from realizing who is mate was to the fact that he opened himself to embrace the difficulty that his brother was under being the older of the two brothers.
The entire book kept true to form, meaning Rowans world was a mixture of light and darkness, the beings and there description was cognizant of this fact. Gabriel world was earth with its fault and its secrecy but no more than when the two world collide and little bits and piece of info starts melting the worlds together to give readers the bigger picture of what was happening.
In this second book, the story is all about Rowan and Gabriel, no secondary characters stood out. While i loved how some of the support cast stood out in the first book, i was pleased with the fact that Ms. Castle made a clear difference in who was leading the story DARK HIGHLAND MAGIC.
I also liked the emphasis on the senses, Ms. Castle was very descriptive in the sound of The realms (screams, laughter), the look (Cave, tunnels, rich pillow and scenes), the feel (slithering creatures, teeth made only for one thing) and highlighting the six sense that is so much more sharper when they were in the Drakkyn realm.
Ms. Castle has left us on a high note, but with enough assumption and guess work that really make me cant wait to get my grubby little mitts on WILD HIGHLAND MAGIC.
Another great review of this book is done by Ruthie Books Books and More Books.

Negative
The one thing that mar this book for me, is somewhere about a third in, the pace of the book dragged. With Ms. Castle fleshing out the dynamics of the Realm and how they came to be and its relevance to the situation that Rowan and her brother now find themselves in for me it got a bit long winded.
Once the world was defined the business was back on and i really regretted having to leave Gabriel and Rowan and all the angst that i can see waiting in the wings to happen.

Cover
What's not to like, a highlander and wolf. Hey thats woman's fantasy. I couldnt image how they would have represented Rowan, she was such a vibrant character.

Kendras given up on men, then she meets Val. The sexy new principle of their school refuses to let Kendra run away from her feelings and their relationship. When he forces her to confront her deepest fears, he shows her that they really are meant to be together.

In the twist on this rather classic romance tale, Kendra is a woman with a little something extra. A woman born in a mans body, she knew early on which gender she was regardless that she has a penis. But not having the perfect body of a woman has kept Kendra from dating. Her fear of rejection causes her to lash out and treat Val horribly. She cant believe that he could possibly want her, need her and love her so her response is to consistently sabotage their budding relationship and then run away. This fear of intimacy and emotion is an important aspect of Kendras personality as she seeks the very thing she fears. The author affords an honest characterization of actions and personality traits that will not always resonate in a positive way to the reader.

Kendra has hints of a sympathetic character, yet its difficult to like such a polarizing personality, even if its a genuine depiction. Her fear and anger cause her to spend a considerable amount of time ensuring no one will want to be with her, regardless of her body. I certainly understood why Val should leave her alone on numerous occasions, but at the same time I felt bad for Kendra being her own worst enemy. Shes always running off to bathrooms and seems to fall down quite a bit, leaving these characteristics as part of her sullen attitude rather than charming quirks. Its difficult to understand Vals persistent attraction to Kendra until near the end, but the hope exists that she may calm down with his consistent affections.

Val is not very well defined in that his emotions swing repeatedly and he lacks any real depth as a character. Hes mostly the perfect gentleman, never remarking on Kendras wild behavior and even going so far as to accept her almost abusive office sex. Why within the span of a week, he is in love with her and wants to marry her is a mystery considering Kendra spends much of the week actively working to have him dislike her. However, considering the context of Kendras emotional difficulties and the ending information about Vals proclivities, the relationship begins to make more sense. I just wish the author hadnt waited until the near end of the story to add this much needed depth and information to the at times chaotic mix of emotion and action.

There were positive aspects to the book in that the supporting characters of Kendras friends were well drawn, if not always likable. Additionally, both Kendra and Val are complex characters that show the mercurial nature of someone with a bipolar personality and thus swings from likeable to dislikeable but in an entirely realistic portrayal. The author definitely shows potential in her writing and characters, but the subject matter may limit her audience. Few books are able to look at the complex problems surrounding MtF transgenders with a realistic and untainted view, unafraid of the reader not being able to connect and relate to the characters. While this wasnt a book I entirely enjoyed, I didnt hate it and for those who are looking for an m/m twist on the classic office romance theme, this may fill that for you. If nothing else, this is an interesting and honest look at the problems and emotions surrounding an often ignored group of people.

Cassie Teller is a woman who has everything she could ever want. What Cassie Teller wants, Cassie Teller gets, it's a mantra that she has lived by in the past and with the men in her life, she plans on maintaining that mantra. Married to Corby Teller, Sports and Entertainment World's Man of the Year, Cassie is no stranger to the limelight. Corby can do no wrong in the eyes of the press although they have a secret that could ruin a lot of people. He will do anything for his wife and who she chooses to bring into the bedroom is no different. Fueled by hatred, an ex-wife does the unthinkable and in the end, it could cost the Tellers EVERYTHING.

In a way, I envied Cassie Teller in that she was absolutely adored and pampered by the men in her life. She was a very confident character who really didn't care what the world thought of her, but did worry about the reputations of her men. Part of me was thinking, "now why can't I be like that, minus a man or two". I was really shocked that Cassie could pull the power card as easily as she did, but when you think about it, she was the only woman and if things didn't go her way, well let's just say NO ONE would be happy at the end of the night. She had her limits on what people could call her and I admired the way she stood up for herself. A girls got to set the limits after all.

Corby was the emotional pillar in the group and the one man who was legally married to Cassie. I fell in love with his character because he knew when to show her how much he loved her and knew when to stay back when his temper got the best of him. He stood out as the go to man for any major decisions in the relationship but did everything in the best interest of his wife.

Steve was the best friend and Cassie's ex-lover. He set the basis for what Cassie looks for in a man and he seemed to be the muscle behind the group. They were all men of great physical stature but Steve knew Cassie better than anyone and there would be hell to pay if anyone came close to hurting her.

Mark's character started out a little chauvinist to me. I didn't like him at first but as I kept reading, I grew to have a fondness for him. Yeah, he was all macho and being the newcomer didn't know the rules but when he got into the swing of things, watch out, Mark was a force to be reckoned with. As you read the book, you will see what I mean. He was more than endowed in the bedroom.

I felt that the group together, not just in the bedroom but as a group, worked so well together. There was humor, adoration, loyalty and a respect for each other that would not be broken by anyone. The characters were written in such a way that even if you didn't agree with what was going on, you really wanted to be a part of the Teller clan, it was that exciting.

I have been a fan of Destiny Blaine since the very first book I read of hers and let me just tell you, this book is above and beyond any book than I had read from her yet. It was scorching hot and I am surprised the book didn't spontaneously burst into flames. The ending of Sports Wives 3 was brilliant and it couldn't have ended in a better or funnier way. If you are a lover of menage writing, then Sports Wives 3 is definitely the book for you. If watching a football game on Sunday is not your thing, leave your man to watch it while you read this book and the outcome will be a very exciting afternoon. You will be a lover of at least football players when you are finished reading it. Be sure to have a pitcher of cold water, you are going to need it. This was an arousing and brilliantly written book and now I am off to read books one and two.

Dick week begins!

This week, I'll be taking time off from serious blogging while I work on the final tweaking of Fugitive and take a little time to have some fun exploring the connection between nose and penis size. It's a tough (but very important!) job which will enable women everywhere to have a better understanding of just what they'll be getting when all they can see is a man's face!

Now, I know I've used this guy before, but he's one of my personal favorites and is also an excellent example of what I'm talking about. The first thing you notice about his face (what you can see of it!) is his nose. Looking further down, the next most prominent feature is the cock, even though it's not in a full salute. See the correlation?

Other things to recommend him are the fact that he's not too heavily muscled, and he's got just enough hair on his body to appear natural, though he might have shaved his balls. I don't know about you, but a man who does that oiled-up-total-body-shave thing looks like he'd be a little too high-maintenance for me. This one looks nice and clean and dry, not greasy, and just plain scrumptious!

Questions? Comments.

LEAD STORYThrough the years, News of the Weird has reported on restaurants around the world with singularly quirky themes and signature dishes, such as the one in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, that seats all diners on toilets and the Beijing restaurant whose cuisine features animal penises. Last year, a group of doctors in Riga, Latvia, opened Hospitalis, a medical-themed restaurant whose dining room resembles an OR, with "nurse" waitresses bringing food on gurneys, accessorized with syringes and forceps in addition to knives and forks and with drinks served in beakers and test tubes. Hospitalis' signature dish is a cake with edible toppings that resemble fingers, noses and tongues. [The Baltic Times, 9-10-08; News.com.au (Sydney), 3-16-09]
Bright Ideas
It was thought to be the backwoods version of an "urban legend," but the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department reported in March its first documented case of a deer hunter's attempting to avoid detection after shooting a doe (instead of the permissible buck) by gluing antlers onto its head. Marcel Fournier, 19, used epoxy and lag bolts, said a game warden, but the finished product looked awkward because of the angle of placement and the size mismatch of the antlers. (Fournier was jailed for 10 days and fined, and had his license revoked.) [Burlington Free Press, 3-14-09]
"It was initially just an experiment," said the 26-year-old, Sebastopol, Calif., midwife apprentice who last year talked her boyfriend into photographing her cervix for 33 straight days so that she could chart its physical changes while monitoring her own mood, libido and body temperature. It was not easy, she told the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat in February. "It's so dark in there (that) even with (a lamp shining on it), the camera wouldn't focus." However, the boyfriend made it work. "He's a very talented guy." Eventually, the photos made it to the Internet, with her cooperation. [Santa Rosa Press-Democrat, 2-2-09]
Compelling Explanations
Christos Kokkalis, 19, allegedly doing 65 mph in a 30 mph zone, was charged with assault in Framingham, Mass., in March, for reacting badly to a pedestrian's hand gesture suggesting he slow down. According to a police report, Kokkalis swerved across a street into the man's path, drove by, turned around and did it again. The report said Kokkalis denied fault, claiming that his car "turns on its own" because of an "alignment" problem. [Metrowest Daily News (Framingham), 3-2-09]
Herman Rosenblat, whose best-selling "memoir" of his Holocaust love affair with his wife was yanked off the market by the publisher when parts were proven false, insisted to ABC News in February that he never lied. Of his heartbreaking, well-worn story that his non-imprisoned future wife lovingly tossed apples to him over a fence at his concentration camp (which physically could not possibly have happened, according to historians), Rosenblat said: "It wasn't a lie. (E)ven now, I believe it, that she was there and she threw the apple to me. In my imagination, it was true." [ABC News, 2-18-09]
In March, Dominique Fisher, a "tattooist," received a probation-type sentence by Britain's Burnley Crown Court despite having carved her name and other marks with a box cutter on her new lover's body while he was passed out. She and Wayne Robinson had been on a four-day drinking binge, and he panicked when he sobered up. However, Fisher said that Robinson knew all along that she did tattoos and told him, "I thought you'd like it." [Lancashire Telegraph, 1-29-09; BBC News, 3-20-09]
Ironies
Angel Galvan-Hernandez, 26, facing a long prison term after being convicted in a Seattle court, begged the judge in February to execute him, that he'd rather die "a thousand times" than be jailed. The reason, he said, was his fear of being raped in prison because of his petite frame and his history of being attacked as a youth. He admitted that he was a coward, "but I just don't want to be raped." His crime: He had pleaded guilty to raping two women. (He got 20 years.) [Seattle Post-Intelligencer, 2-27-09]
What We Say, What We Do: About 200 members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) launched a protest campaign in March, accusing their employer of improper layoffs, unlawful bans on union activities, and reclassifying of workers in order to disempower the union. The employer of the workers is the national SEIU office, where they are staff members. [Washington Post, 3-18-09]
A federal arbitrator ruled in March that an employer had, for years, "willfully" violated the Fair Labor Standards Act in exploiting workers by failing to pay overtime. The guilty employer: the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. [Washington Post, 3-31-09]
Fine Points of the Law
New Zealand's Employment Relations Authority ruled in February that a worker who, in a fury, tells his boss to "stick his job up his arse," has not officially resigned unless he follows up the incident with a formal notice. [The Press (Christchurch), 2-5-09]
Two competitors vying to sell the same type iPhone application (arrays of sounds of breaking wind) are embroiled in a trademark dispute, according to a March Denver Post report. The developers of Air-O-Matic's "Pull My Finger" claim that InfoMedia's "iFart" application improperly uses "pull my finger" in its own marketing. InfoMedia said that the phrase is generic and not trademarkable. [Denver Post, 3-27-09]
From an advertisement in the News Reporter of Whiteville, N.C., placed by attorney C. Greg Williamson on Jan. 5, 2009, to give legally required pre-adoption notice to the unknown father of a girl (about whom the mother apparently recalled very little): The father "was about 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a light brown complexion and 'funny' shaped eyes," and the "date and place of conception" were during December 2002 "at a house in Bolton, N.C., thought to be the second house on the left after turning left on the street just past Bubba's Club as you head east from Lake Waccamaw." Under state law, that man had 40 days from the placement of the ad to challenge the adoption of the child, now age 5. [Whiteville.com, 1-5-09]
Recurring Themes
Criminals Not Keeping Low Profiles: Motorist Christopher Cadenhead, 39, was stopped in Osceola County, Fla., in January for having an expired tag. Inside his car, police found 200 pounds of marijuana. [WOFL-TV (Orlando), 1-22-09]
Jose Melendez, 54, and his wife and daughter were stopped by Douglas County, Neb., deputies in January after their RV was driving on the shoulder of Interstate 80. Cover-story discrepancies among the three occupants as to where they were headed and which "relatives" they were "visiting" aroused a deputy's suspicion, and a search of the vehicle revealed $2.5 million worth of cocaine under a floorboard. [Omaha World-Herald, 1-24-09]
Undignified Deaths
Karma: A 25-year-old man who was a passenger in a car driven by a drunk friend was killed in Houston in February when he was thrown from the car in a crash. That incident came seven months after the victim had, himself, been charged with DUI in a crash that killed two people. [Houston Chronicle, 2-13-09]
Two brothers driving a stolen car and being chased by police on Interstate 70 near St. Louis in November were killed when they accidentally crashed into another car. That car, also, had been stolen. [KSDK-TV (St., Louis), 11-30-08]
A News of the Weird Classic (September 2003)
In March 2003, the double life of wealthy Tampa construction magnate Douglas Cone, 74, surfaced when, following the death of his socialite wife, Jean Ann (with whom he lived Thursdays through Sundays and had three kids), he quickly married his socialite paramour Hillary Carlson (with whom he had lived for years in a second mansion 20 miles away as "Donald Carlson," Mondays through Wednesdays, and had two kids). Cone's philanthropic contributions (donated in both his names, though "Mr. Carlson" never appeared at events), and both women's dedicated community service, made the "four" of them prominent figures in Tampa. (The consensus among the families' members, according to a St. Petersburg Times report, is that Hillary knew; Jean Ann might not have; and others did not.) Job centres in row over sex industry ads
Campaign groups condemn government department for sanctioning “exploitation”
By Helen McArdle and Jonathan Liew
SCOTLANDS TRADE union congress has called for the abolition of advertisement of sex industry vacancies by Jobcentre Plus, amid fears that rising unemployment could see vulnerable women lured by the promise of lucrative earnings.
A co-ordinated campaign by human rights group Object, the Feminist Coalition against Prostitution, and womens rights group Eaves, has branded UK job centres as Pimp Centre Plus in protest against the growing numbers of posts on offer.
Latest statistics show the service advertised 351 roles within the adult entertainment industry, ranging from party planners selling sex toys and sex shop workers to strippers, topless models and even a semi-nude butlers groups and the STUC are demanding an end to government-sanctioning of sex industry jobs, citing an incident where girls as young as 17 applied for vacancies as a masseuse, only to find they were expected to sell sex.
The legitimate advertising of jobs in the adult entertainment industry has been a major issue for feminist and human rights groups since a legal ruling in 2003 ordered that the sex shop Ann Summers could advertise its vacancies in Jobcentre Plus.
Under the ruling, centres must carry any job vacancy as long as it is complies with the law. Apart from the more mundane Ann Summers-style party planner roles, there has been mounting concern that the ruling also opens the door for lap-dancing, pole-dancing and strip venues to recruit more widely - professions which their detractors claim are gateways into prostitution and pornography.
Mary Senior, the assistant secretary of the STUC, pictured below, said: re deeply concerned about attempts to normalise this because I think its just perpetuating the objectification of women and certain attitudes - violent attitudes, abusive attitudes.
She added: Many people who become involved in this sort of work are vulnerable, whether its because of poverty, drug abuse or other sorts of substance abuse or other traumatic events which have happened in their lives. This so-called preys on these types of women, and I think its very disturbing.
In December a company called Revolver Models, which runs small-scale operations in Scotland, was offering on-target earnings of £500 a night for male and female lap dancers. A job in Doncaster requiring women to pose naked in front of a webcam and talk about sex to paying online customers was removed in March.
Anna van Heeswijk, Objects grassroots co-ordinator, said: It is not acceptable for a government agency to be promoting jobs to women which often involve violence and abuse and which send out the message that women are sexual objects to be bought and sold.
She disagreed that taking such job adverts off the market would deprive unemployed people of the chance to work, saying: s quite a small number of vacancies. The bigger question is that this is the government endorsing the abuse and exploitation of women.
However, a spokeswoman for the Department of Work and Pensions said that nobody was forced to apply for a position, or threatened with the loss of benefits if they refused to apply. But she added that the DWP is currently looking at the rules to see how we can tighten regulations even further. It is due to publish the findings of a consultation on the issue in June.
Lap-dancing clubs have divided opinion since they first arrived in the UK in 1995, with some arguing they belong in the sex industry and others bracketing them with leisure activities.
In February the Home Office announced plans to re-categorise them as sex encounter venues, prompting calls for the Scottish government to follow suit. At present, lap-dancing clubs are regulated under the same licence as nightclubs, live music venues and karaoke bars, and by September will be on the same legal footing as pubs. To date, the Scottish government has declined to review the licensing regulations, arguing that it is the responsibility of individual local authorities.
A report into the industry in 2004, which included four Glasgow lap-dancing clubs still in operation, found that the lack of employment rights, the experience of accumulating debt, expectations of the customers, and the fierce competition create a climate where the selling and buying of sex on the premises becomes more likely.
Half of the Glasgow customers surveyed admitted they went to the clubs looking for sex, and 25% claimed they had had sexual encounters with dancers on the premises.
Tony Cochrane, owner of the Private Eye chain of adult nightclubs which has branches in Aberdeen, Dundee and Dunfermline, has recruited via Jobcentre Plus for the past two years. He believes the industry is unfairly targeted by feminist groups lumping them in with pornography and prostitutes.
He added: These are just normal girls looking to make a bit of extra money. Some of them are single parents and they find its a good job to survive, especially in this day and age. But we really encourage people not to jump in at the deep end and go rushing after the money.
Catherine Stephens, spokeswoman for the International Sex Workers Union, which campaigns for the labour rights of people in the adult entertainment industry, claims action like that taken by Object is counter-productive.
She said: Pressure at work is not exclusive to the sex industry. It can be dealt with most effectively by giving people in the industry the right to union protection and safer working conditions, which is exactly what these so-called feminist groups are campaigning against, and in doing so they are playing into the hands of those companies which would attempt to exploit them.

this book. It's called "Anybody Can Be Cool ....But Awesome Takes Practice". It's a book that teaches teens to be "cool" through the teachings of Jesus.

Huh?

We all know that being cool has nothing to do with the Lord Jesus Christ your personal savior. The only cool gods I've ever seen are me and that elephant with the multiple limbs. What's his name? He's Hindu or something? You know the one I'm talking about.

A reader sent me this link to the book and I had to post it*. Look at that cover. I bet the blond haired dude is saying something about being yourself and using a crazy bible story as an example. Sure looks like he's got the attention of his listeners.

When I was in third grade I got roped into going to a "meeting" by some chick in my class. It turns out that it was some freaky Christian cult. They had us doing fun stuff for a while then started talking about religion. And they were trying to make religion cool. Trying. Very hard. I was in third grade and still knew it was bullshit and was looking for a way to escape. I still ask my parents what they were thinking when they let me go to that thing.

They claim they don't remember. Surrrrrre.

*and you have to click on the link and see what some of the reviewers on Amazon wrote about this book. Classic.

When a desperate village sacrifices her to the Water God, Soah is prepared for death.  Instead, she finds herself alive in Habaeks  (the God) kingdom.  Though she is shocked and lonely at first, she quickly begins to adjust to her new life as his bride.  The other Gods, including the Fire God, hint at danger and past wives but Soah focuses on Habaek who is a child by day and a man by night.  Of course, this being a romance, Soah is completely unaware of that fact and accepts that man-Habaek is child-Habaeks cousin.
The plot seems to loosely hinge on Soah and man-Habaek clumsly falling into each other, watching each other in intimate moments like sleeping or bathing and occasionally having an actual discussion.  Theres also the matter of Habaeks mother whos not too fond of her new daughter-in-law.  But despite the lack of a story, this is not a manhwa to let go of because it is gorgeous.  Every page has something to wonder at, whether its the buildings in Habeaks kingdom or the dresses Soah wears.  The Gods are classic manhwa - stretched out, thin and willowy but Mi-Kyung Yun manages to add another emotional element that keeps them from looking like stock characters.  You can see it in the way Habeak bends his shoulders when hes a man or the way he tries to stand taller when hes the powerful child or the way Soah sees her refection in the water.
The kingdom of the Water God is magical.  In the words of Liz Lemon, I want to go there.

The Erotic Market | GENREALITY

  • Mar. 13th, 2009 at 10:32 AM

I was at a social gathering the other night and was asked what it was that I did for a living.  Having spent the day wrestling with revisions to my latest novel and not wanting to talk about my writing at the moment, I said that I was a writing/creativity coach.  (Which is true, I am, its just not my primary means of income.)  To my surprise, several of the people involved in the conversation wanted to know just what a writing coach could do for a writer.  After all, writing is a pretty solitary profession, isnt it?
I gave a few quick answers, which seemed to satisfy them, but thinking about it later made me realize that I should have had a stronger answer prepared.  After all, it shouldnt have been a totally unexpected question for someone who claims to do this for a living.
In his book, The Success Principles, Jack Canfield says that hiring a “personal coach is one of the best kept secrets of the successful” and in my view it’s no different for writers than it is for entrepreneurs. A good coach can make all the difference in getting you to your goals quick and efficiently. With that in mind, here are my top ten reasons for working with a writing coach…
Vision - A writing coach can help you clarify the vision you have for your writing, setting a clear path to success. A coach will also then be able to help you craft a set of actionable steps to see you through to the end.
Momentum - How often have you started a writing project only to run into roadblocks and lose momentum. Just like a personal trainer who keeps your focused and moving forward on your physical fitness program, a writing coach can help you continue to gain ground on your writing goals week after week.
Knowledge - The publishing industry is a confusing business and newcomers usually have far more questions than answers. An experienced writing coach, particularly one who is a writer in their own right, can act as a mentor and guide you through the process of creation, submission, publication, and promotion.
Organization - Writing a novel or non-fiction book is a large and complicated task. There is a lot to keep track of and far too much conflicting information out there about how to go about doing so. A writing coach can help you design an organizational program custom tailored just for you and your writing style, eliminating a lot of the typical roadblocks that plague newer writers.
Getting Unstuck - How often have you started a writing project only to hit a wall somewhere in the middle? A good coach can help you work through the barriers that are impeding your success and get you back on the road to completion.
Objectivity - Sometimes you are just too close to your own writing to evaluate it properly. An experienced writing coach has the necessary objectivity to review the work you’ve done to date and make suggestions on how to improve it. A coach can also act as a sounding board to help you work through various issues before you’ve gone too far in one direction or another.
Accountability - Writing a book takes time and sometimes life just wants to get in the way. A writing coach can provide the accountability you need to stay focused and on track week after week after week. When you decide you want to get going and accomplish something a coach will hold you to your word and will not accept your excuses for why it wasn’t done. Making a public declaration of your intent will also provide you with the needed incentive to keep your commitments.
Motivation - Sometimes we need to be reminded of why were are striving for something and a writing coach can help you remember just why you are working so hard to accomplish those goals. When you get down or get distracted, a coach can pick you back up again.
Support - A good coach can provide support for the difficult moments in your writing career, without condemnation or judgment. Sometimes just having a third party who understands and knows how hard you’ve worked is enough to put you back on your feet and moving forward again.
Focus - When the distractions of every day life get in the way and keep you from completing what you set out to do, a writing coach can refocus your attention on what’s important and get you back on the path to success.

Rafidan The Political Committee Baghdad The Republic of Iraq
Statement in Response to President Obamas Remarks made on the 27th or February 2009 regarding the proclaimed ending to the occupation of The Republic of Iraq.
Good Evening,

In Respect to the remarks of President Barak Hussain Obama, The president of the United States of America. The Political Committee of a number of factions in the Iraqi Resistance, mainly the factions present in our front, respond with our point of view on the contents of his speech.

Over the last four months, as the battle of our people continues to free Iraq of all foreign occupation. We have been studying the movements on the ground as well as analyzing the intelligence in order to assess the next strategy that the US administration will take under the leadership of the new presidency.

We had formulated our own plan of action based on the above mentioned, but have chosen to give the new president enough time to gather his thoughts and have a suitable amount of reports briefings that would give him also a good picture of the daily developments on the ground.

President Obama, After listening to your speech on the 27th of February 2009, in which you declared your general and public understanding of the ongoing war against our people, and gave your military and the honorable people of the United States brief points on your intentions in our country, we felt the spirit of the speech that your predecessor President JFK gave on the 20th of January 1961, on his inaugural address. In this speech, he offered a turbulent world, a way out of tensions and paid with his own blood for challenging the interests of those in your consecutive governments who hold the true keys to power. Those who would do anything to preserve their interests, wealth, power to create wars conflict.

We mention this with great honesty in hope to spread awareness and remembrance that a new Caesar may be betrayed, by his own, if he chooses to follow a different path. We do believe, on the other hand, that the spirit of the speech was well chosen.

We have listened well to your economic plans for your country released before this speech as well, and as ambitious as it may seem, we believe that if intentions are genuine within your congress, a considerable number of what you seek will eventually be fulfilled, but in case of failure, the republicans will be looking for a scapegoat to relate all their failures to. In this case it would be your administration. This will guarantee them a fast comeback.

You have inherited a nation at war, a failed economy, and a desperate people who are bearing the full brunt of an economic crisis that was not of their making. As well as thousands of young men dead and handicapped.

We have inherited a foreign occupation, endless counts of innocent dead, injured, and handicapped, millions of refugees, in essence, Mr. President, the complete and planned disintegration of our nation and people.

We believe that the funds wasted in this war would have been more useful if it were spent on research to develop alternative energy, which no doubt would have reduced energy conflicts, cures for cancer, agricultural solutions to prevent worldwide poverty, advancements to develop Africa, where people still die of starvation and intentional neglect. Endless causes, all in need of immediate attention.

By the will of God almighty, the resilience of our men, and the patience of our humble people, we have so far managed to halt and render useless all imperialist agendas set for Iraq and the region in whole. Simply by choosing to resist occupation, a right guaranteed by God first and then by international conventions to all men. A right your countrys policies continue to disrespect and dishonor, in clear example to state sponsored Terrorism.

You have spoken to our people in part of your speech, and we thank you for these words, you have displayed a far better understanding our nation, than your predecessor, who preferred to dive deep into the oceans of illiteracy and ignorance. Despite the fact that you did not mention the Iraqi resistance in your speech, and chose to label us as terrorists along with those who arrived with your troops, we will set that aside for now, and mention a few facts for the record.

1- The people of Iraq whom you addressed, in all their sects colors and religions, refuse your occupation, and those who accept it, are those who benefit from it.
2- The Iraqis you addressed, as we truly hope, are not the ones who bathe in the riches of treason, behind your walls of the green zone, nor are they the likes of Ahmed Al Chalabi, whom your previous government conspired with and his likes from the dark alleys of 5 star hotels in the US and Europe prior to your occupation.
3- The Iraqi people you talked to, are those who never invited your occupation, and were trying their best to survive on what was possible, under the criminal sanctions that went on for 13 years only to be crowned with a foreign occupation, unmatched in criminal acts, in todays modern world.

President Obama, The suffering, that our people had to go through is beyond comprehension. And the endless crimes of your troops as well as that of neighboring countries, cannot simply be undone or dismissed, nor can they be brushed under the carpet. Your troops still occupy the land and kill the innocent, that is why we can only address you as the president of an occupying nation.

The Iraqi People are disappointed in your plan. They expect your troops to leave our country in full and not in part. Our people, seek a complete end of occupation and not the fulfillment of a strategic treaty that was rushed against the will of our people, in the last few days of your predecessor.

Our people, as well as the majority of people around the world, and in your country, want to see the last president be presented to an international war crime tribunal for all the crimes he has committed in the name of your country, only to benefit those who brought him to power in the first place.

We have never invited your occupation, nor have we asked your country to steal our countrys resources to benefit your corporations and to those neighboring states which historically fall under your influence. We have never asked you for your precious blood or ours, to us, all blood is precious even that of the your soldiers sent by your government to die not knowing what they were truly fighting for. This has to be addressed to the man who started this war, and is hiding now in Texas, while you try to undo his damage.

We the Iraqi People and their resistance demand the following:

1- The fulfillment of all the conditions presented to your government through the mediators you
Sent in 2006.
2- The hand over of all the traitors Collaborators in the green zone to the Iraqi people where
They will be dealt with as any nation would do with in cases of high treason.
3- The full just compensation for our people for the losses they have suffered.
4- The halting of all compensations paid to those who fall under your umbrella in the region from the resources of our people.
5- The return of all land stolen from our country.
6- The departure of all foreign corporations mainly in the sectors of energy, communication, infrastructure rebuilding, specifically those linked to Neocon interests. Our people are more than qualified to rebuild and operate our institutions.
7- The hand over of all mercenaries accused of killing innocent civilians mainly security contractors in Black Water and their CEO to be tried for murder.
8- All foreign advisors are to leave Iraq with your troops.

9- The dismantling of all militias equipped by your country and Iran together to shift the nature of battle towards the sectarian nature in order to allow your troops to concentrate on the major resistance activities in the central region of Iraq.
10- The halting of all support to the sectarian government elected in the orchestrated elections in the green zone.
11- The reduction of the influence of your Persian allies in Iraq which your previous government worked with in close conjunction and who continue to fund Al Qaeda on behalf of your intelligence agencys behalf.
12- The return to the old constitution of a unified Iraq. And the Upholding of new elections
Within 6 months of the resistance taking power of the nation, this will be supervised,
By must be conducted in the presence of a number of credible international monitors. Not the ones
Sponsored by the CIA.
13- Cities and provinces are to be handed over one by one starting with the four main cities and airports of Baghdad, Basra, then Mosul and Kirkuk in the same order. The rest will fall immediately in our hands. The borders will have other arrangements.

The list goes on, but the intention is to give you an idea of what we pledged our people to achieve. In return for our peoples demands, we will cease to attack all occupation forces withdrawing to the south and beyond the border post of Safwan.

Without these straightforward moves on your part, we regret to inform you that the resistance of the people of Iraq will continue until that last boot of US/British/Persian occupation is thrown across the borders of our country.

If you choose change as you claim, then you must have reached the conclusion that to continue dealing with the same people your predecessor appointed to fulfill his dirty work, will fail to deliver positive results for both our people. It is not the thieves of the green zone who brought the defeat of your military.

You must search further for the honest Iraqis and from the ranks of our people and not those of your collaborators to achieve a just solution. You can also recognize the right for the Iraqi people to resist and publicly ask for our advice and representation. The Iraqi people intend to be masters of their own house as they always have, and by following the plan you have declared, you have not yet fully understood Iraq well.

There are those who will claim, that a quick withdrawal from Iraq will cause civil war, and that is a possibility, but we would also like to clarify that the forces of the puppet government which has been equipped to defeat the resistance will not stand ground, nor will they block our efforts to liberate our cities one by one if we had to, and all the efforts of your collaborators to move to the north and south of the country and create their own federal states have been studied well for their weaknesses and will be crushed within a short period. This is a more realistic scenario. True there will be still the Persian occupation which will offer its militias support, but we know that the US cannot leave the oil rich south to be occupied by Iran, and they would rather see it fall in our hands instead. As it would be giving too much to a close yet not so trust worthy ally, and would deprive your military necessary funds that would support long-term military presence necessary in Iraq and throughout the region. Funds that some in your government think they can still rely on. Funds that your economy can no longer bear in the midst of the turmoil in the globalized economy of your nation, to control the world.

The Iraqi resistance understands well that the US could not continue to sell oil at a high price
of 120 USD/Barrel to cover the costs of its war, as this strengthens old adversaries. And it would be only a matter of time before this tactic backfires on the US foreign policy. But it also understands that the US cannot fund foreign occupation any more without depending on local resources and revenues to cover the expenses. This is the true cause of the change of as you named it President Obama.

With oil prices falling to their true realistic market values, the winter ending in the consuming economies, the oil prices should fall to 30 USD plus mark, which is also effecting the local economies of your allies in the region, as anything below 55 USD per barrel, is already becoming a burden on these

economies, which in turn can no longer assist to their full potential in funding and supporting the costs of US aggression in the Region.

The Declining of oil revenues, which we truly thank you for mentioning in your speech, will make it more difficult to fund your militarys operations in Iraq, and that is why the numbers of your troops is to be reduced. To match the income predicted from the oil projects sponsored by your corporations in the south and the oil theft operations run by your agent, Hamid Jaffar in the north of Iraq in collaboration with NGO oil of Norway, is what your strategists think is possible.

Yes President Obama, we do agree with you, that the US needs a smarter, more sustainable comprehensive approach, but rest assured, that what your predecessor has failed to achieve with all the military might at his disposal, we will make sure that you will fail to achieve the same goals through the soft hand of the Democratic party.

In fact, it is more logical and practical to follow the alternative energy programs that you have set wisely, to ensure the non reliance of your economy on oil as well as the utilization of advancements and added fruits of R D to employ the unemployed, and support a new and young market for the shift in energy dependence, and in turn end the monopolization of energy, practiced by the corporations that control it and control world political and social stability, than to merely dream of expecting the Iraqi People to hand you over their resources.

We on the other hand intend to nationalize and use our resources to build an alternative energy base our selves and offer our people a life of prosperity, stability, as well as supporting the energy transition of other nations that are oil dependant, a task we truly believe is noble and worthwhile.

The Iraqi Resistance will not accept any short term or long term energy contracts with the US until we ensure that the rights of our people are properly addressed. And within the parameters of relations based on mutual respect first and mutual interests second.

President Obama, It is time that people in Washington understand that there are no shared interest between an occupying tyrant and an oppressed victim of occupation.

Your government would have stayed forever in Iraq if the traitors who conspired with your consecutive administrations had their way in starving the Iraqi people into submission and force them to welcome your occupying troops with flowers as Chalabi promised you. But after three wars and over a decade of sanctions, there were enough honest men to defeat the worlds most powerful army play a major role in destroying the most imperialistic Globalized economy ever developed by expansionary capitalism.

These are the type of people you are speaking to Mr. Obama. And if you were not presented with this reality throughout the briefings that occurred, and understood the true scale of the economic disaster with all the social and geopolitical implications of your military defeat in Iraq, then please allow us to mention a few of the major achievements that the Iraqi Resistance have promised its people and the free people of the world and has delivered:

1- We promised to pin down your troops in Iraq and drain your economy until you admit defeat and withdraw your troops. And this we fulfilled.

2- We promised to halt the US plan for Middle East in full, and prevent the loss of other innocent lives in other neighboring countries, and that we fulfilled.

3- We embraced the war and continue the fight on behalf of all the oppressed world, which not only stood still and watched the massacre of our people and the illegal occupation of our nation, but many of its leaders participated and continue in harming our people inside and outside Iraq and assist in the theft of our resources. This, apart from the support of honest people all around the world,

4- including citizens of your country, who marched day and night to support the cause of Iraqs right to resist, marches that defied the weather, and weathered criminal defiance and ignorance of world politicians. Marches that we will ever be indebt to, and in gratitude in appreciation for. May god bless those people wherever they are. And this we fulfilled and continue to do so.

5- We have understood the nature of international balances of power and most importantly predicted the primitive mind of the occupation and played a major role in forcing the US to increase oil prices in clear desperation for cash. And use that to allow other powers to recover. And the numbers never lied, this we also fulfilled.

6- The Iraqi People wrote a new chapter in Urban warfare, and invented the art of remote combat, and in turn gave the world lessons and set a new standard in how to defeat the worlds most powerful army. In this, the most dangerous achievement that threatens US global influence is that all the oppressed people who suffer from negative US influence, can use this experience to free themselves as well. This also has been delivered.

7- The Resistance has already drafted its 2, 5 and 10 year plan to engage Iraq in rebuilding programs that will set a new standard for development in the Region and restore Iraq to its rightfully earned place in world politics and positive human development. This while maintaining Iraqs isolation from harmful neighboring countries at the same time, these plans was prepared and drafted in the early months of 2007 and are ready to implement once we see the end of your occupation.

8- The resistance created a new battle field and utilized every tool available to break free of the corporate media and tell, inform, and educate the world of the true nature of the struggle, and present every curious man and woman daily reports and videos of your militarys defeat and in every language possible. People from all over the world, chose out of their own free will and time, people of different religions and backgrounds chose to be soldiers of the cyber wars and translated all what we had to tell, asking nothing in return but the truth. The true casualties of your war are yet to be declared. (We refer to the green card soldiers)

9- The resistance has sparked not only the collapse of the US economy, but also caused the domino effect and the destruction of your fine tuned and delicate Globalized economy, and forced the return to national economic protection, and the rights of local and regional economies to grow and ensure a decent life and practice their right to develop as well. All your efforts to restore the globalized economy will deliver nothing of value, and puppet governments that maintain your oversight of world resources will eventually fall, one after the other, as their faults will be more evident to their average citizens, and that is why you are now receiving daily reports, from the CIA about the world economy.

ALL THE ABOVE, AND YOU STILL CHOOSE TO IGNORE THE RESISTANCE OF THE IRAQI PEOPLE AND THE RESISTANCE OF THE GLOBAL ALLIANCE OF THE FREE, WHICH WE INTENT TO PROPOSE TO THE WORLD AS THE NEXT STAGE OF FREEING THE PLANET FROM YOUR DOMINENCE WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT.

ALL THIS SAID, AND THE GLOBAL MEDIA WHICH YOU STILL MAINTAIN CONTROL OVER STILL LABELS FREE PEOPLE AS TERRORISTS AND EQUALS THE RESISTANCE OF OCCUPATION WITH CRIMINAL ACTS OF STRIKING CIVILIANS IN BUILDING AND TERRORISING THE LIVES OF THE INNOCENT.

TRULY IRONIC !! Nevertheless represents the true state of shock you policy makers have reached. But all can be reversed if you truly believe in Change Mr. President.

The resistance along with the votes of the peace loving people in your country and choice of the world
Who brought you to power, are more than capable to pull you down and defeat your new strategy, if you choose to lie to them and follow the plans of your predecessor.

You must understand that the time when your foreign policy bullied and bribed people into submission is over and for a considerable time. And your politicians and strategists have to understand that to be accepted as a superpower you must first learn to speak to the world with modesty and respect that others in this planet, also have the right to provide for their families a decent life, the right to food and water, the right to education and knowledge, the right to industry and employment, and free from your corporate despotism.

We in the Iraqi resistance, renew our pledge to our people and to our brothers and sisters in the global family, to continue the fight and struggle to free Iraq and give our allies the chance to follow suite.

While you were preparing your new strategy in leaving the streets and highways of Iraq to your collaborators, and hiding your troops behind the walls of the castles and green zones you have prepared for your minimized long term presence, we have been preparing to address your new tactics and will deal with them in the proper manner.

Remember, that hiding behind and holding castles is no longer sustainable in modern warfare!

Your finest fighting force as you name it, is up against the most witty, resilient innovative self-propelled resistance honorable humanity has ever presented. Rest assured that we are not impressed with your plan and will follow your movements on the ground and cross examine them to your declared intentions and daily economic reports. There is no such thing as friendly occupation, and we advise you to revise your plans to vacate Iraq at a time suitable for our people and not suitable for your agents in the green zone.

And if you need to talk to honest Iraqis, then you know very well, where to find them. John F Kennedy also said Let us never negotiate out of fear, but never fear to negotiate

You choose to negotiate with all the parties that worked for your predecessor and have caused all this harm, yet you choose to ignore the only true party that can offer you a decent outcome.

Good Luck President Obama!

Full of passion, wonder, and emotion, Love at First Bight is a fascinating story that took me on a journey that I never wanted to end.

This is an entertaining story about a group of people finding love and acceptance and most of all a family with one another in a very unconventional relationship. In this futuristic story, Dr. Emilia Hypatia, takes a job on board the Tamora Bight and finds more than she expected when she meets her crewmates, Caphis Bates, Ford Caliban and the Captain Aaron Lucio. The story exudes sensuality as the four come together in some very passionate scenes as they bond with and get to know Emi better. In addition to the passion, the group also bond outside of the bedroom as they learn more about each other and work together on board their ship.

Caphis, Ford, and Aaron already have a strong bond from being comrades and from their shared experiences over the years and the author demonstrates this through their concern and protectiveness of one another. Caphis and Ford are so close that they have been nicknamed the twins because they often say the same thing at the same time, which added some humor to this story. These men are very private individuals and are reluctant to share more with people who arent part of their crew. After several rejections, they find it hard to believe that Emi would accept their unusual lifestyle and it is evident in their words and demeanor. Aaron is especially protective of his crew as he doesnt wish them to be hurt. This causes him to come across as rude and cold at first, but once his reasons are revealed his behavior is understandable.

While the four come together to form a whole thanks to their chemistry and obvious attraction to one another, each character also has a distinct personality and the author did a wonderful job of using Emi to point out these differences in the men. As Emi gets to know the men she sees that Ford is the caretaker and romantic of the group. He also stimulates Emi intellectually as well as physically and I enjoyed their moments together. Caphis is more emotionally fragile yet playful. He is the self-appointed protector of the group and the worrier. Meanwhile, Emi sees Aaron as serious and brooding. He is also protective, but he has been deeply wounded by past events that have affected him as well as his men a great deal. These events, once revealed, really pull at the heartstrings and make it easier to understand these three men and their touching relationship. It has helped to shape who they are making them fiercely loyal to whoever they let into their inner circle.

As for Emi, she completes the men in a way they never thought theyd experience again. And what I really enjoyed is that while she bonds with the group as a whole, the author also shows how she forms a deep relationship with each man individually. Having lost her parents at a young age, Emi has longed for a family and with the crew of the Tamora Bight, she finds it. However, there are times where she felt a bit left out and I could really sense and feel her anguish as she too feared rejection by these men. The story is told from Emis point of view and at first I was a bit confused as to why we only get to see her side of things, but as the story progresses and a huge twist is revealed, it all becomes apparent and I applaud the authors choice.

As for this unexpected and interesting twist, I wont spoil it, but it definitely surprised me as I never saw it coming. Yet as I thought about it, I realized that the author dropped subtle little hints throughout the story and I never realized what they were all leading up to. I thought the author did a beautiful job of doing this and it really made the story stand out to me as everything fell into place.

Overall the story is a very emotional one, more so than I initially thought it would be as I read the description. While it does have scorching hot and touching love scenes between all of the main characters, it also has heart as the four bond and form an unconventional relationship. The group becomes so close and emotionally linked that I ached for them toward the end during one of the most emotional and pivotal scenes of the story, however, I dont want to say too much for fear of spoiling it. I will say that the author did a fabulous job of making me care about these characters and allowing me to experience and feel their pain and emotion with her words. I was drawn into this fascinating world and relationship and loved every minute of it.

Love at First Bight has more than earned a spot among my keepers and I look forward to reading more of what this talented author has to offer.
